Happy New Years

Well this will be my last post before the new year to everyone who stops by have a Happy New Years day. Hopefully, I'll be over my illness soon. Then we can all look forward to a fruitful and happy year in 2005.

Chicken Little

This is another computer animated feature, this time from the Walt Disney Studios. Their deal with Pixar will end after the realease of the movie "Cars", so I guess they are trying to knock off their own line of computer animated features. This one is centered around a chicken and his quest to stop aliens who want to take over earth (how clever) to take over earth. The animation in the trailer looked good enough, but my doubts come in the story. Disney, on their own, have never been that strong at coming up with good clever and creative storylines. They always seem a little corney to me. Hope they pull it off cause I like movies like "Shrek" and "The Incredibles", which seem to be able to reach all audiences with their creative and hip approach to film making. This is another one we'll just have to "wait and see" to get the final answer.

The Ring Two

I liked the movie "The Ring" when I saw it, so I thought I would make a note of the second installment of this franchise. The trailer for it is on the Dream Works site...and....though it was an extended teaser, it looked like it had all of the elements in it that scared the shit out of us in "The Ring". This may be one to take your girl to get her close to you lol.

Paper Clips

Paper clips is a documentary about a small North Carolina community's drive to collect paper clips to help visualize the loss of life during the Holocaust. It is a true story which starts out with a single teacher and her class room and inspires the entire town to join the effort to get 6 million paper clips. After watching the trailer I was inspired to go out and make a difference (for a moment anyway). Hope the movie's as good as the trailer.

Mirror Mask

Well I'm still sick but decided to post a couple anyway. We haven't heard from the Jim Hensen work shop in awhile, but they are back in this Sony Pictures film, Mirror Mask. This is sony's description of the film.

MirrorMask centers on Helena, a 15 year old girl in a family of circus entertainers, who often wishes she could run off and join real life. After a fight with her parents about her future plans, her mother falls quite ill and Helena is convinced that it is all her fault. On the eve of her mother's major surgery, she dreams that she is in a strange world with two opposing queens, bizarre creatures, and masked inhabitants. All is not well in this new world - the white queen has fallen ill and can only be restored by the MirrorMask, and it's up to Helena to find it. But as her adventures continue, she begins to wonder whether she's in a dream, or something far more sinister.

This is a very stylized movie that fully uses the wizardry of the Jim Hensen Shop. If you 'd like to preview it .....there's a trailer on the Sony Pictures site.

Deuce Bigalow....European Gigolo

Don't have much information on it , but Rob Schneider will reprise his role as Deuce Bigalow in the above mentioned movie to be released August 12, 2005. I like Rob Schneider and look forward to this movie.

XXX State of the Union

Well looks like XXX is back, but with a new cast and star. This time Ice Cube, who I like alot will be starring with Samuel Jackson , and Xibit from the "Pimp my ride TV show". This looks like it is a well done 2nd installment of the XXX series. The plot involves stopping the overthrow of the government.

This is a little off subject, but I have to express my sympaty to all my asian friends who have been affected by the massive tsunami. Looks like the death toll could reach 100,000 when all is said and done. Catastropic events like this make our daily lives seem so small and insignificant. Death is part of life, but at this scale it is even hard to imagine , let alone except it. I'm very sorry for your the end I hope it makes you stronger and you find a warm spot to keep their memories alive........David.

Assault on Precinct 13

This trailer looks pretty action filled. It stars: Ethan Hawke, Laurence Fishburne, John Leguizamo and Ja Rule ( yes the rapper). The plot seems to center around a group of crooked cops trying to make sure Laurence Fishborne (and everyone else) doesn't ever leave Precinct 13's cell block. The criminals in the cell block aid Hawke ( a policeman) in fighting off the attack. As I said before this might be a movie to go see....lots of action.

Into the Blue

I'll do one more for you this morning....kind of stumbled on this one. MGM is releasing a movie called "Into the Blue" starring Paul Walker and Jessica Alba on August 19th, 2005. It was directed by John Stockwell of "Blue Crush" fame. It is about a group of young divers who discover a lost shipwreck that was rumored to contain millions of dollars in gold.....What's the catch? It's located next to a crashed plan with a cargo of illegal goods.....and the plot thickens. This is clearly an action aventure movie. There are no trailers available yet, so I'll get back to you with an update when one is released.

Here comes another computer animated feature from the makers of Shrek. With the voices of Chris Rock , Jada Pinket Smith and David, Spade among others, we follow the adventures of a miss matched group of zoo animals that decide to break out and go to back to the wild....which I would guess would be Madagascar. Based on the track record and quality of past productions from DreamWorks' animation unit, I 'd say this will probably turn out to be a very good ticket to buy. I liked the trailer....we'll see about the movie.

The Machinist

This is an intriguing least the trailer leads you to believe it is. It stars Christian Bale, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Michael Ironside. What astounds me about this trailor and movie is that Christian Bale....who is the new Bat Man.....lost 60 pounds to do this movie. It's very stylized and was directed by Brad Anderson. It's classified as Drama, action and adventure. This might be one to look into.

a Love song for Bobby Long

Being from Louisiana I can relate to the images I saw in the trailer of this film. It was done here in the bayou country and stars John Travolta and Scarlett Johansson. The trailer makes me think this film will deliver the goods. The stars are both excellant actors and the portrayals in the movie are very accurate, at least for small town life near the bayou. I will personally go and see this movie. Will be in NY and LA Dec. 29th and in select cities Jan. 21st.

On January 14 the movie Elektra will be released by 20th Century Fox Films. It is a spin off of the character from the movie and comic "Daredevil". I hated that movie....I own the DvD and haven't watched it once. I hope this movie will deliver more, but it starts off bad in my mind because Elektra was killed in "Daredevil". I hate those kinds of "let's throw all the rules out and do it anyway" remakes. I've been watching the remakes and am very torn on this one.....I hope it is a good movie, but I suspect it may be exploitation of the fact Elektra is a hot chick and a comic book character and both do well at the movies currently. Guess we'll see together.

I am a big fan of Pixar Productions. Pixar , for those who don't know is a computer animation company owned by Steve Jobs . It was purchased from George Lucas and built into what it is now. They stay right on the cutting edge of computer animation and seem to be able to come up with very creative ideas for their movies and fill them with warm and memorable characters . They partnered with Disney initially because Disney had the releasing experience and clout to gain an immediate large audience. This new movie "Cars" will be the last in the current agreement with Disney. I've seen the trailer for it and based on that I believe it will be another very successful Pixar film. It's directed by John Lasseter who did "Toy Story" and breaks further ground in computer animation. It will be released in November of 2005.

After viewing this trailer I am torn about this movie...why......I didn't like the TV series when it was on, and I don't especially like Nicole Kidman (we've seen her WAY too much lately). On the other hand I do like Will Ferrell, as stated before, and I like the work of Nora Ephron, the director. I also like Michael Caine and Jason Swartzman, but I thought the trailer (though it was a teaser) was cheasy and had Will Ferrell doing Mustafa from Austin Powers again. I guess in the end I'll wait to see how the actual trailer plays before passing my final judgement on the prospects for this flick.

X Men spin offs

I hope you haven't had enough with the Xmen, cause there is Way move coming your way. Not only will there be Xmen 3 but also a spinoff movie for the characters" Wolverine" and "Magneto". No production schedules for any of these movies yet.....stay tuned.

Bat Man Toy line

If you like collectables or love to bitch about exploitation of big movies then you'll like this link:
Whew!!! holdy shit! That's some addy. It's the link to the collectables and toys based around the new "Batman Begins" movie. Don't fight know you want to look lol.

Movie Scripts

Looking to go behind your movie and read the script? Well I've found a link for you .... . There are many scripts listed there and their links.

Schultze Gets the Blues

I like this trailer alot! Of course it was filmed her in Louisiana, at least partially so maybe there is a little bias there also lol. It is a small film about a salt miner , forced to retire who finds a new love for Zydeco Music which takes him on a quest to the Bayou Country (Louisiana) where he finds a new destiny. It has lots of Zydeco Music in it and the lead actor, Horst Krause seems to draw you into the story. The director is Michael Schorr....I don't know his work ....will have to look him up.....get back to you later.

Kicking and Screaming

This movie is a Will Ferrell vehicle that looks like it allows his skill as a comedic actor to run wild. I like him, so I'm willing to wade through some fake sentiment and trumped up story line to see him at work. It also stars: Robert Duvall (a very skillfull comedian? lol) Mike Ditka ( to draw in the sports fans no doubt) and Kate Walsh.

Sin City

Man! This Movie looks good to me.....whether it will meet up to the trailer is anyone's guess but at first viewing .....I liked it. This is a movie based on the Frank Miller .....Black and White and highly stylized comic books. They actually shot some of this movie to prove to the powers that be that they could reproduce the same style as in the comic books. It has a shitload of stars going for it also: Bruce Willis, Jessica Alba, Rosario Dawson, Elijah Wood, and Maria Bello all of which are good actors. The director is Robert Rodriguez who has done a couple of good action movies that made him alot of money, but he also has made some fluff movies I couldn't be paid to see. Like the 3d exploitation crap. The trailer makes me want to give this movie a look....with some anticipation even.

The Pink Panther

I just saw the trailer for the Pink Panther, starring Steve Martin , Kevin Klein, and Beonce Knowles ( are we over exposed yet lol). This movie has at least a potential to be very funny , but I can't get a read on the movie by the damn trailer. If I judged by it alone, I'd say it will suck! Steve Martin is a funny guy, but will people except him in the roll after Peter Sellers who was a genius in this roll......we'll any opinions?

Pissed of about list!

I saw a top twenty list of the all time science fiction movies and it Pissed me off! First of all it put the movie Gattica at number two.....hell I didn't even like the movie! Then it put "The Day the Earth stood still " next to last. For the time this was an important movie....and still one of my favorates. Now the thing that really pissed me off.....two extremely important science fiction movies were left out entirely..........Terminator 2 and Aliens.....both James Cameron films. This dick head that assembled this list ( and you know who you are) should be shoveling dung in the lower primate cages at the zoo instead of ranking sicience fiction movies!......Whew, that felt so good to vent that lol.....have a nice day :)

In the Realms of the unreal

Award-winning short filmmaker Jessica Yu makes her feature-length debut with In the Realms of the Unreal, a documentary about outsider artist Henry Darger. Born in 1892, Darger lived in Chicago and worked as a janitor for most of his life. When he died in 1972, his landlord found his life's work: The Story of the Vivian Girls, in What is Known as the Realms of the Unreal, of the Glandeco-Angelinian War Storm, Caused by the Child Slave Rebellion (often simply referred to as The Realms). A massive, multiple-volume fantasy novel, The Realms also contains nearly 300 illustrations of collages, drawings, and paintings. Rather than interview art scholars and psychologists, Yu chooses to look at Darger's work from the viewpoints of those who knew him. Yu also incorporates animation segments into the documentary, using Darger's original images. In the Realms of the Unreal was shown at the Sundance Film Festival in 2004 as part of the documentary competition.

This movie is facinating to me as a painter, that someones entire life's work would be found only after their death. I will make a point of seeing this one. I saw the trailer on NetScape.

Oh by the way.......Merry Christmas.....from me and my family.

X Men 3

Brian Singer has decided to drop out as director of Xmen 3 which is set to open in May of 2006. He has chosen to take over the job of directing the new Superman project which will be a fresh take on the beginning of Superman using the latest technology to tell the story. I'm sure they will have someone who has a passion for xmen to direct.....they have way to much money to loose if the project tanks.

Dark Water

I also stumbled across this movie this morning and it looks like it might be a 10 on the Fright scale. It stars Jennifer Connely , John C. Reily, and Tim Roth. It's about a woman living in a run down appartment building that seems to have something supernatural going on in the closed part of the build up above her. Dark water seems to drip down from her ceiling.....I'll let your imagination take it from there. It was written by the man who wrote "The Ring". Take a look at this , it'll creep you out.

The New World

I stumbled across this one this morning and somehow had never heard of it. It is based in the 1600 s and tells a story of one group of adventurers discovering the new wold.....that being Virginia. It stars Colin Farrell, Christopher Plummer, and Christian Bale. The trailer looks good, though it has shades of the Christopher Columbus movies that came out a few years ago. I sure hope this movie is better than they were. In any event, the costumes look good and the movie looks like it's promising.

Hey I'm back on Christmas eve with a couple of new movies for you. First is this one....."Constantine" , starring Keanu Reeves as this mystical character that is the first line of defense between us and all that is evil and dark and supernatural. This movie will be released on Feb. 18 and looks like it will be a must see for all fans of Keanu and Horror. The trailer can be seen at Apple . com at the quicktime location.

I stumbled across this book a while back but never read it. It was by best selling author Clive Cussler who has made a bundle off of writing adventure novels. It has been made into a major motion picture starring : Matthew McConaughey and Penelope Cruise. I looked at the trailer for it at the Yahoo Movie section. The movie looks like a lot of fun. It's done in the David Bruckheimer style of adventure. It's called "Sahara" and I'm sure it won't be the last of Clive's books that will make it's way to the big screen.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

The remake of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory will reunite Tim Burton , who is directing, and Johnny Dep who will play Willy Wonka. The movie is based more on the book than the Gene Wilder movie version and will be called "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory".
You can see the trailer at in the quicktime section. I looked at the trailer and there is certainly lots of eye candy, but didn't see much difference. Hope Tim didn't lay an egg here lol.

New X files movie

Just read a report that Chris Carter will write the screenplay for the X files 2 movie which will reunite David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson. I don't know much else about it but would love to hear more if anyone runs across further information on this movie. I enjoyed the first X File movie and will certainly go see the new one when it's released.

Pirates of the Caribbean 2

Yes there will be a Pirates of the Caribbean 2 and maybe 3 filmed back to back(as if we doubted that lol). I really enjoyed the first film and have watched it many times on DvD. Greg's site says there is a rumor that Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones will play Johnny Dep's father in the movie. All of the stars of the first will return with no doubt additions. It will begin shooting in January of 2005. Remember share if you have any new news on this or any other movie.

Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou

This looks like a very funny movie. Bill Murry is the star along with Cate Blanchett, Owen Wilson, Anjelica Huston, Willem Dafoe, Bud Cort Michael Gambon Jeff Goldblum and Noah Taylor. This movie is being released on Christmas day. Looks like Bill Murry is back in his element, doing the kind of comedy that he does so well. I look forward to a popcorn fest watching this movie lol.

James Cameron

James cameron has been one of my favorate directors since the terminator. I enjoy his approach to science fiction stories. Not just a story line , you also care about the characters in his movies. Having been a special effects director himself, he knows how to make a CGI movie.
On top of this he is a perfectionist and this is clear in all of his movies.

His latest science fiction movie is currently being called : "Battle Angel". It is in Production now.
It is based on an animae feature called : "Battle Angel Aleta". It is another super robot in the future film, though I'm sure that is the only thing in common with the terminator series. We'll see as it developes. Share is you have any thoughts or news.

War of the Worlds

This is the new remake of the Orson Wells classic. It is set in the present time and Tom Cruise is the star. Steven Speilberg is the director. The trailer can be viewed at in the quicktime area. With Steven Speilberg involved, I'd have to think that there will be something to this movie....he is in his element when he is doing science fiction. Guess we'll have to see as it developes.....the release date is sometime next year. If you have any new imformation ...please post.

Upcoming Movies

If you have any comments on new upcoming movies you can do it here. I would start it off with the Peter Hyams film "Sound of Thunder". This looks to be a very good science fiction movie with lots of action and eye candy. Ben Kingsley and Edward Burns star in it . The story involves time travel and naturally something goes wrong which sets the story in motion.

King Kong

I have followed this latest project of Peter Jacsons since early on. As I stated in a previous post all that is King Kong can be found at . Peter Jackson himself contributes a diary every few days from the set of the new remake of Kong. Go and check this out. You will be amazed at the progress of this movie.

Ever since I was ten years old when my parents dropped off my brother and I at the movies in the afternoon after school and on the weekends for the double feature matinees, I've been a rabid fan of the movies. Later I worked thoughout high school as a projectionist at two local theaters and became more of a film fan. All through my life there have been many changes , but one thing has remained the undieing love for movies. I have created this Blog to share that love for the movies with others that feel the same. I hope you take the time to read the posts and share your opinions , insights, reviews , and scoops with all of us. If you have any neat movie site links then share those also and I will do the same. Ejoy yourself and feel free to email me with any ideas to improve the blog
